Chemistry
Chemistry Course Overview
Leaving Certificate Chemistry develops curiosity and confidence in the study of matter, reactions and chemical systems. Curriculum Online states that a new Chemistry specification is being introduced for fifth-year students from September 2025, while the current syllabus remains the examination route to June 2026. The subject asks students to understand core chemical ideas, apply them to unfamiliar situations, demonstrate inquiry and practical skills, and appreciate the everyday, social and ethical relevance of chemistry. Zr Academy lessons build from the fundamentals into exam performance. Students revise atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, equilibrium, organic chemistry, fuels, rates and experimental work. We focus on calculations, definitions, diagrams, required practicals, data interpretation and answer structure so students can move between theory, laboratory context and marking schemes with confidence.
