History
History Course Overview
Leaving Certificate History studies human life in the past through evidence, interpretation and argument. Curriculum Online describes the subject as developing students' understanding of human experience and motivation while strengthening critical thinking through the evaluation of sources. On May 4, 2026, Curriculum Online also lists a draft Leaving Certificate History specification under public consultation from March 2 to May 24, 2026. The current course is assessed at Higher and Ordinary Level through a Research Study Report submitted before the examination and a written paper. Zr Academy lessons support topic knowledge, document work, essay planning and the research process. Students learn how to select evidence, explain causation and significance, compare interpretations and write focused answers under time pressure.
