English Course Overview
Leaving Certificate English invites students to become thoughtful, fluent and independent users of language. Curriculum Online notes that the current syllabus applies for examinations to June 2028, while a new specification will not take effect before September 2027 for fifth-year students. The course develops literacy, oral awareness, personal response, cultural understanding and the ability to interpret varied texts. Students work with prescribed material that changes by examination year, so up-to-date planning is essential. Zr Academy lessons build confidence across Paper 1 and Paper 2: comprehension, composing, single text, comparative study, poetry and unseen material. We focus on argument, quotation, paragraph structure, style, timing and examiner expectations, helping students turn reading into precise, expressive and well-supported answers.
