Current marking structure
The current Mathematics syllabus is assessed at three levels: Foundation, Ordinary and Higher. Higher Level and Ordinary Level students sit two examination papers, while Foundation Level students sit one examination paper.
Leaving Certificate Mathematics develops mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding for further study, life and work. It asks students to move beyond memorising procedures and to understand why methods work, how ideas connect, and when different approaches are appropriate.
The subject supports disciplined thinking, problem-solving and clear reasoning. Students work across algebra, geometry, functions, probability and statistics, and are expected to apply mathematics in both familiar and unfamiliar contexts.

A revised Leaving Certificate Mathematics specification is envisaged for introduction from September 2027, but as of May 24, 2026, no final specification or confirmed new marking structure has been published. The official position is that development work is in progress.
The currently published official syllabus is organised into five strands:
Higher, Ordinary and Foundation Level, with two papers at Higher and Ordinary Level.
Zr Academy offers Maths support in Dublin 2 and online for students who want stronger methods, clearer reasoning and more reliable performance across both papers.
